The XXXII edition of the AFIRSE Portugal International Colloquium, on the theme of Education, Participation and Democracy – Contributions from Research, will take place on February 5, 6 and 7, 2025, at the Institute of Education of the University of Lisbon.

Based on the knowledge produced by scientific research, the XXXII AFIRSE Portugal Colloquium seeks to contribute to reflection and debate on the following questions: How can democratic education be developed? What has education done and can it do for democracy? What have schools done and can they do for democracy? What has democracy done and can democracy do for education? What are the challenges facing education in democratic societies? How can we promote the democratic participation of citizens? What is the role of education in recognizing and valuing diversity? What is the role of education in defending human rights? What is the role of education in promoting equality, tolerance, mutual respect, empathy and solidarity? What is the role of education in promoting human development, freedom, autonomy and peace? The debate on these questions challenges political decision-makers, educational organizations and agents, as well as citizens (children, young people and adults) about educational policies and practices, and their purposes.
