I am a postdoctoral integrated researcher at Centro de Investigação em Educação (CIEd) at Universidade do Minho and had my PhD in Psychology (Psychology of Education) at the same institution. Since 2003, I have been dedicated to the study of personal (cognitive and non-strictly cognitive) and contextual factors that can contribute to academic success. I have embraced my most exciting scientific challenge in 2014 (finished in june 2020): a national wide project (mainland Portugal, archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores) focusing on cognitive differentiation and academic achievement in Portuguese adolescents, supported by the Foundation for Science and Technology of Portugal (SFRH / BPD / 93009/2013; Program QREN - POPH - Typology 4.1 - Advanced Training). My broader research scope includes the study of cognitive processes (understanding, reasoning, problem solving) in different contents (verbal, numerical, spatial) throughout schooling and their relationship with learning. I am the author of the Bateria de Aptidões Cognitivas (BAC; Lemos & Almeida, 2015) and I co-author the Bateria de Provas de Raciocínio (BPR; Almeida & Lemos, 2015). As a teacher I have been sharing with enthusiasm my knowledge and practices in graduate (university degree) and post-graduate (post-graduation, master's and doctorate) study levels, in higher education institutions, both public and private, in the subject matters I find more interesting: Educational Sciences, Educational Psychology, Inclusive Education, Cognitive Assessment and Research Methods. Currently I collaborate with Escola Superior de Educação from Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal in post-graduate level course and continuous teaching training course, mostly regarding inclusive education, pedagogical differentiation and collaborative work. I grow with each person I come across and have had the opportunity to develop work and studies with colleagues from our country, Portugal, as well as from Brazil, Mozambique, Spain, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. I also cooperate in consulting jobs and training related to project assessment and team development in the fields of Education and Knowledge (e.g., Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Teach for Portugal). What moves me is the ability to make a difference [mine] in the world through actions that I accept with a high sense of commitment in education.
