The new Director of CIEd, José Augusto Palhares, Associate Professor at the Institute of Education of the University of Minho, took office on 28 January.
José Augusto Palhares has been teaching and researching at the University of Minho since 1991. He obtained his PhD in Education in 2005, specialising in Sociology of Education. He has taught various subjects in the scientific areas of Research Methodology, Sociology of Education, School Organisation and Administration and Adult Education. Her research and publication interests have centred on the sociology of non-school education (non-formal and informal) and the sociology of youth, and in recent years she has favoured a sociological approach to the issues of excellence and school results in Portuguese public schools. Since 2021, she has coordinated CIEd’s Thematic Line 1 – Diversity, democratisation and social inclusion.
Maria José da Silva Fernandes, from São Paulo State University, is attending the Postdoctoral Program in Education Sciences, specializing in School Organization and Administration.
